What is Dicamba M?
Dicamba M is a selective broadleaf herbicide. It contains 340 g/L MCPA and 80 g/L dicamba (both as dimethylamine salts). Both are plant-hormone type actives. The weed absorbs them through the leaves and carries them through the plant, so the weed curls and dies while most lawn grasses carry on.
It is used on lawns, parks, sports turf and pastures. Don’t use it in vegetable gardens or around edible plants.
What does it control?
Common weeds controlled include white clover, bindii, dandelion, thistle, capeweed and creeping Charlie. Paspalum may need a spot treatment. Check the label for the full weed list.
Which lawns is it safe on?
Dicamba M suits most common lawn grasses, including couch, kikuyu, ryegrass and fescue. It is not suitable for buffalo grass, including Sir Walter and other soft-leaf buffalo. Small amounts can damage or kill buffalo turf. If you have buffalo, use a product labelled for buffalo. If you’re unsure of your grass, test a small patch first.
How to spray it (from the label)
- Spray actively growing weeds, with the weeds dry (not wet from dew or rain).
- Don’t spray if rain is expected within 4 hours.
- Don’t spray stressed weeds (drought, cold, poor fertility or waterlogged soil).
- Skip mowing for 2 days before and 2 days after spraying.
- Hold off fertilising for 2 weeks after spraying.
- Keep pets off until the spray has dried.
- Keep grazing animals off for 7 days.
- Don’t apply to legume pastures or crops with clover, lucerne or medics.
- Spray when it’s calm to avoid drift onto garden plants.
Larger areas and pasture (label rates)
- Large turf areas (fields, parks, fairways): 6.5 L in 250–400 L of water per hectare.
- Bowling greens: 900 mL in 200 L of water over 1,400 m².
- Grass pasture: 2.8–4.7 L per hectare, or 190–470 mL per 100 L of water, or 60–100 mL per 15 L knapsack.
How long does Dicamba M take to work?
You will typically see curling and yellowing within 3 to 5 days. Full results usually appear within 7 to 14 days, depending on weather, weed type and coverage. It works more gradually than non-selective herbicides like glyphosate.
