Description

What is Barricade Pre Emergent?

Barricade Pre Emergent is a Group D selective pre-emergent herbicide from Syngenta, containing 480 g/L prodiamine. Applied before weeds germinate, it forms a barrier in the top layer of soil that stops weed seedlings establishing in lawns, garden beds and potted plants, with control lasting up to six months per application.

Who it’s for

It suits homeowners and professional turf managers with established lawns โ€” including buffalo, couch, kikuyu, paspalum, zoysia and other common Australian turf types โ€” as well as garden beds and potted plants. This 5 Litre pack is a commercial-scale concentrate, better suited to larger properties or trade use than a single home lawn. It’s not for use on newly seeded, newly laid or sprigged turf, in vegetable gardens, or around fruit trees or sensitive plants.

Why it works

Prodiamine only controls weeds at the germination stage, so it won’t touch weeds that have already come up โ€” those need a post-emergent herbicide first. Applied at the right time of year, it controls a wide range of grassy and broadleaf weeds including summer grass, crab grass, winter grass, paspalum and crowsfoot grass, giving up to six months of preventative protection in turf and garden beds, or up to four months in potted plants.

Application & analysis

Active constituent: 480 g/L prodiamine. For established lawns and turf, apply 30 mL per 10 litres of water with a garden sprayer (covering 100 square metres), or 3 mL in 9 litres with a watering can (covering 10 square metres) โ€” early spring for summer weeds, or late summer to early autumn for Winter Grass. For garden beds and potted plants, apply 40 to 80 mL per 10 litres of water with a garden sprayer, or 4 to 8 mL in 9 litres with a watering can, using higher rates where weed pressure is high, and apply before mulching. Shake the container well before opening, mix half the water first, then the dose, then the remaining water. Water turf in lightly within 24 hours (avoid watering to runoff for three days); wash garden beds in with at least 3 mm of irrigation or rainfall immediately after application. Don’t apply to turf under stress or turf that isn’t fully established, and don’t plant seed in treated soil for six months afterwards.

Pack size

Barricade Pre Emergent is available in a 5 Litre container (SKU 038-347).

Tips for Use

Gently agitate the 5 Litre container before opening
Rotate or rock the container so the prodiamine particles re-suspend evenly before mixing.

Mix correctly using the label method
Add half the water first, add the measured Barricade dose, then top up with the remaining water. Agitate the sprayer or watering can before applying. Mix only enough solution for the day.

Apply before weeds germinate
Barricade controls weeds only at the germination stage. Existing weeds must be removed with a post emergent first.

Use the correct seasonal timing
Apply in early spring for summer type weeds.
Apply in late summer to early autumn for Winter Grass.

Measure the treatment area before mixing
Ensures the correct amount of product is applied evenly across lawns, garden beds or pots.

Apply evenly across the entire surface
Spray or pour the mixture evenly to form a consistent barrier in the upper soil layer.

Water in correctly
Lightly water in within 24 hours of application.
Do not irrigate to the point of runoff for three days after applying.

Do not apply to new or stressed turf
Only apply to well established turf with a developed root system deeper than 3 centimetres.

Do not apply over mulch
For garden beds, apply directly to the soil surface and wash in before mulching.

Allow treated areas to dry before entry
Do not enter the area until the spray has fully dried.

Clean equipment thoroughly after use
Rinse sprayers, nozzles and watering cans with clean water to avoid residue buildup.
